Issue 20: Biarritz

Bonjour!

Oops, I’m back. I honestly didn’t think so much time had passed. How did that happen? I’ve been busy judging the World Chocolate Awards Asia Pacific category (among other chocolate related projects). I’ve added a picture to the bottom of this newsletter showing what the judging process looks like. Yes, I ate all that chocolate and no I didn’t really enjoy it but it was really interesting!

This week I am taking you all with me to Biarritz in France. I only had one hot chocolate there (it was a quick trip) but I’ve shared some tips on what to do while visiting Biarritz. It is one of my favourite cities and even though you won’t find much in terms of hot chocolates (or maybe you will, let me know if you do), you will find plenty to do.

Right next to Biarritz is Bayonne, the chocolate capital of France. Here is a link if you want to add this to your virtual trip. Next week we will be crossing the border into Spain to sip hot chocolates and stuff ourselves silly in San Sebastian.

Thanks for following!

Biarritz is a short bus ride from Bayonne, the chocolate capital of France.

  • Cazenave and the capital of Chocolate

  • Jamon, Gateau Basque and a Hot Chocolate at L.Raux Chocolatier

  • Sipping Bean to Cup with Monsieur Txokola

And if you are visiting Biarritz

  • Buy pastries at Maison Adam

  • Visit Marche Halles for amazing produce during the day and snack and drinks at night.

  • Walk down the zig zag path to the Port des Pecheurs.

  • Have Paella on Rue du Port Vieux

  • Go surfing at any of the beaches.

  • Grab a book at Librarie Darriagde

  • And the tourism office (not their tourism video is awful! Biarritz is so much better than that).

This Week’s Hot Chocolate News

I need to book a ticket to New Zealand now to sip through this list of their best hot chocolates.

Here is a beautiful article about chocolate in Belize.

How is Mars promoting living incomes in cocoa smallholders?

Huski Chocolate in Stockholm is the main sponsor of Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson’s racing team. They are marketing themselves as the world’s fastest hot chocolate…of course.

Cochu Chocolatier in Calgary is opening and they have drinking chocolate on tap.

Craft brewers in the US are making marshmallow infused beer (how about a cocoa nib and marshmallow infused beer….)

If you are in France, a consumer survey has voted Cacao bio cru Jolivia as the best cocoa powder followed by Pur Cacao de Naturela and Bio Cacao de Van Houten.

And finally, random news: this guy blocked traffic with wagon full of cell phones (give this man a prize).

Any links you want to share? Send them to me here.

Finally, if you liked this newsletter, could you please share it with a few other hot chocolate loving friends?
