Issue 21: San Sebastian
Last week we were sipping around Biarritz on the French side of Basque Country. Today we are in San Sebastian, just over the border in Spain but still in Basque Country. San Sebastian, also known as Donastia, is a food lovers dream. If you visit, you will eat and drink from morning until morning (literally) and it will probably be some of the best food you have every had in your life. From pinxos to some of the world’s best restaurants, and of course some of Spains well known thick chocolate with churros, San Sebastian is always a good idea.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be taking you with me through Spain as I follow the history of chocolate. We have a lot of hot chocolates to get through!
And if you are visiting San Sebastian
Visit Plaza de la Constitucion and note the numbers on the balconies.
Walk around La Concha Beach
Spend a little time at San Telmo Museum to learn more about Basque history
Take a ride on the carousel in front of beautiful Donastia Town Hall (a former casino)
Visit La Brexta market
Hike up Mount Urgull for a 360 view
If you are travelling outside of the historic centre, keep your out for milk vending machines! You just rock up with a bottle and you can fill it with fresh, local milk!
